Default cannot import second video file! different frame rate message.

Hi,

I'm trying to import several video files into a session and as soon as i try to import a second file is says "can't import as the frame rate is different from the video currently in the session" but all the videos are identical? same frame rate etc!

It looks like PT might be altering the frame rate when it imports the first video file! as it shows 2.76fps on the video track

everything is set to 29.97 fps and the videos are recorded at the same!

Any info appreciated

Chris

Command-J in QuickTime and let us know the codec and framerate.

Hi,

Can't see anywhere where it displays the frame rate? all i can see is format which is animation and stuff like start time/time code start etc.

Everey video i try to import seems to be a different frame rate? even one's recorded at the same time. i'm also trying with screen captures and the same problem!

How can i get a second video in to PT?

Hi crizdee,

Try cleaning ProTools's preferences with ProTools Prefs & Database Helper.

Quicktime and PT are often not on the same page as to the frame rate of video files. QT displays problems outputting to the correct frame rate when exporting to some codecs. You may ask for 29,97, for instance, but that doesn't mean you'll get it. On top of that, even When QT tells you two video files share the same frame rate, PT may disagree.

One sure-fire way of getting lots of files from different sources into sessions without a hitch has involved doing conversions and exports through Final Cut Pro. All files exported from FCP have a solid, predictable frame rate. If you're going to DV, passing through a fixed-framerate format like DV Stream has also fixed this issue.

Through testing, I found the differing framerate problem cropped up even within a batch of files captured at the same time. Once those files were exported from the FCP timeline, though, all appeared in PT with identical framerates.

Pref/database trashing has never had any effect on this issue. Over here, at least...

You need to right click in the information window to display additional parameters.

There are a couple issues with QT and FCP that can cause frame rates to not be read properly by Pro Tools, for example:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...&highlight=fcp

Re-exporting using the same settings for both movies will usually help and, if you have Compressor, I've seen reports that it's the most reliable for re-encoding.
