Let's clear something up here.

Having a 64-bit operating system will not prevent you from running 32-bit applications. It will not prevent your 32-bit applications from accessing 32-bit extensions.

This is the reason it is possible to co-install PT10 and PT11. That said, the compatibility is all about the host application. Pro Tools 10 cannot use 64-bit plug-ins. Pro Tools 11 cannot use 32-bit plug-ins.

So... PT and plugs must match, you'll be good going forward as long as you have a 64-bit OS.

The exceptions where an AAX plug-in is only 64-bit for PT11 are noted there. In those cases where there is no AAX 32-bit version, you would also install the ".dpm" RTAS, AudioSuite, or TDM version of the plug-in for PT 10 if available (separate download and installation), as well as the 64-bit AAX version for PT11.
Thanks for the feedback.

I'm a little unclear about the point of 32bit AAX. The settings won't port over from RTAS plugins, right? If that's the case, then it's not gonna do much for me.

But maybe I'm just looking a it one sided. Maybe the 32bit AAX was intended to be used before the 64bit was release. And maybe the setting will port over from 32bit AAX to 64bit AAX. In which case I get it. Then people who make the jump to AAX can get stated in 32bit, and then the settings will port over when they become 64bit. Won't help me, cause I'm still RTAS. But I get it!

The settings are compatible. Any preset you save in the RTAS version of PLUGIN X can be loaded by the AAX versions, and vice-versa. Any preset made in the 32-bit AAX version can be loaded in the 64-bit AAX version, and vice-versa. Likewise for any settings that are contained in your sessions.

Presets make sense. But what about porting over session plugin settings. As in, I load up a PT8 session in PT11. The settings in my session won't port, unless I go thru ans save each one as a preset, right?

The settings for inserts in your session should work without saving presets. That's what I was saying in that last sentence, I should have made it more clear.
