Interesting,,, I wonder why ? I was under the impression that the M2 chips was the same underlying fundamental operating architecture , featuring the same data cache and instruction cache as M1 only being a bit faster I guess we will see

I highly suspect they mean "not officially tested". And who exactly is the person at Avid who said this?

Kinda said both really! I think I’ll hold out to hear some reports for user!

“M2 processors are still not compatible with Pro Tools. We have yet to release a version that is tested with M2. If you need further info, please refer to our compatibility chart.“

Thanks for the replies!

Surely just a matter of time. Was there ever a Mac that could not run Pro Tools?

Anything released before june 1991, inluding original Macintosh from 1984. At that time (1985-1991) it was called Sound Designer, Sound Tools, ProDeck and ProEdit.

Windows compatibility was introduced in PT6.1 on 2003, if PT Free from 2001 does not count

lol. Well, yeah, that's undeniably a fact. :)

Actually, though, until 1999, when Digidesign first freed PT from TDM hardware (though not yet from Digidesign or M-Audio hardware), you needed a Mac that could hold a NuBus card. That ruled out most of them at the time.

I was running PT 5.X - not PT Free - with a Digidesign 001 on Windows 98SE starting in July of 2001.
