How Quiet is the Mac Pro for a bedroom studio?
I just need an opinions if the mac pro is quiet enough to keep in the room you are mixing in? I am asking for those that have a mac pro in the same room you are mixing in. Thanks!

I did for a year or two - Moved it out of the room for the heat it put off, not the noise - it's very quiet, I don't think i ever heard it "Ramp Up" like my old G5 used to.

Stealth like! Really a marvel in quiet design.

Re: How Quiet is the Mac Pro for a bedroom studio?
I keep mine in the control room and it is pretty quiet. However I can hear the drives read / writing in the the mic if I am tracking acoustic guitar or vocals in there. I build a pillow tent in front of it (careful not to block air access) to solve that & mixing is never a problem with the noise. The biggest issue more then noise is the heat. I have a small control room and even if I am in there by myself it can get uncomfortable quickly.

Re: How Quiet is the Mac Pro for a bedroom studio?
The fans on the two video cards make enough constant whirring noise that I had to put the MacPro in an iso cabinet. I used to keep it on the other side of the wall in another room with the wires going thru a hole in the wall, but I got tired of walking around to the other room to load CDR's and DVD's. That s when I built the iso cab.
I record mostly acoustic music. My feeling is it makes enough noise to isolate it.

What?! Are Mac Pros supposed to make noise?... Argh, mine seems to be broken then :)
More seriously, during an acoustic guitar tracking, I had to deal with the guitarist breathing more than the Mac Pro noise :) Phil |
