mackie cfx16 and digi002

I just purchased the Mackie cfx16 mixer. I have my drums, bass, and keys going from the mixer to the digi002 using the insert jacks. however i cannot use the faders or master fader to control the volume for the different channels, only the gain works. There are no direct outs on the mixer, is their somethin i can set or change to be able to control the volume using the faders?
