Default How to get from PT7 to PT9 on windows7.

I just recently bought a new computer with windows 7 on it and wanted to crossgrade to PT9 from my PT7.1. I know it's possible but just not sure how to go about it. I know PT7 isn't compatible with windows7 but i would like to think that i don't have to upgrade to PT8 and then 9 right? I'm just not sure how it works. I've seen threads on going from 8 to 9 but not 7 to 9. Thanks in advance!

Jacub, PT's 9 is a full installer, and doesn't need any other PT's on the PC. Just purchase the 9 installer, and away you go!!

Good luck,,, Mike

The things you will need are: 1. your qualifying hardware that needs to be registered. 2. your I-Lok ID as you will need to enter it for them and they will place the PT 9 license in your I-lok account. Depending on what kind of hardware you have, you may get PT9 for as low as $250.00... This info I gave to you is based on a online purchase of PT9. Obviously things will be different if you get it at a store.

Mike, you're talking about the crossgrade version?

Again, for all intents and purposes, it isn't a crossgrade. It's a full installer that will force you to remove previous versions anyway.

Thanks guys. I got it and everything works fine except for my external hard drive. I can't export audio to it from PT for some reason.

FWIW, with Windows 7, Avid now recommends USB2 drives and no longer recommends firewire drives(FW is still the choice for Macs). It seems Win7 has improved USB management that now is good for audio, but the new firewire drivers are still having some issues.

Thanks Albee. Tried the USB as well and it didn't work. I keep getting a message that says "you do not have permission to save in this location". Did i maybe read somewhere that PT doesn't work with Fat32?

Yes, FAT32 is not compatible for recording drives. Must be NTFS or HFS+.
