Hi all,
My friend has fired this at me. He has a HD2 (version 7) system which which he is upgrading to version 8 on a Dual 2.0 G5 PPC. He has also purchased an Eleven rack. Is it possible for Pro Tools 8HD & LE to exist together on the same drive? The G5 will be moved about so needs to be mobile. According to this link it was possible with 7 but not supported: http://www3.digidesign.com/index.cfm...4&itemid=24495 Any info would be great. ![]() |

Why do you need to run LE? I know that the Eleven CAN act as an LE interface, but it doesn't NEED to. I don't believe that you'd be sacrificing any of the Eleven's functionality by simply running it into your HD interface as you would a preamp or other outboard gear.

I understand that and totally agree but he wants to be mobile also for smaller recordings. All the gear is for an orphanage in africa and sometimes they will have to travel. I tried it last night with no joy. It looks like I will have to install LE on the second internal drive. Something weird happens though, If I have the 192 and eleven rack connected and fire up LE it works. HD works regardless. If the 192 is switched off and I try i, LE throws up a message saying please select which audio card but you are unable to select any and have to cancel and go back to the desktop.

I experienced a smilar situation, and I believe that the root cause is that Pro Tools LE checks HD hardware when starting up or playing, even if Pro Tools HD is not installed.
I have Mac with HD Core card, installed Pro Tools LE but NOT Pro Tools HD. If the audio interface like 96 I/O is disconnected or turned off, Pro Tools LE complains: "Unable to find an Audio interface attached to the first HD card". I found that Pro Tools LE installer installed DigiDal.kext (for HD Core and Accel cards) and DigiIO.kext (for HD audio interface) in /System/Library/Extensions. I removed those kext files, and restarted Mac OS X, then Pro Tools LE came up, but it caused errors when playing so it is useless. |

Thanks for your reply and you are 100% correct. When the 192 and eleven rack are both connected, LE fires up fine, records and plays back no problem. Basically they will have to take the 192 & Eleven Rack whenever there is any location recording or just use Eleven with another machine.
