Default Fans in all new HD converters...?

Hey all,
I know the Omni fans issue has been done to death... Anybody know whether the fans are of a similar volume in the other HD interfaces?

I'm assuming they don't get quite as hot as the Omni, as there's less stuff crammed into a small space...

Anybody make a comparison between (say) the 16x16 and a 192...?

Thanks

I just traded in a 192 IO for the HD IO 16x16 and would say that the new interface is a bit quieter. It is definitely quieter than the Omni, which I decided against due to it's fan noise. It's no louder than my 8 core Mac Pro, so I don't see a major problem with tracking in the same room with it. The best part of the new interface is that it sounds absolutely amazing! Avid really knocked it out of the park with the sonic quality and the lower latency.

I agree with drumster...

I have 2 192 IO and i have a new HD IO (16/16) since April, i did not notice any difference between them (for fan loudness i mean!).

When i read your post, i went near the interfaces and put my ear against both, i would say it's pretty much the same loudness.

And yes, the new HD IO sounds verrrrry good.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Luc

This was NOT my experience. I replaced two 192 I/O interfaces with two HD I/O interfaces, and IMMEDIATELY noticed that the fans in the HD I/O are louder. I tested them together, and one at a time, and noticed that the HD I/Os are identical to each other, and that they are both louder than the 192 I/Os. I still have the 192 I/Os to compare them directly. Not really a problem if you can have them in a machine room or isolation rack of some kind.
