Default What's your 18+ channel PT9 Native studio setup?

Hi everyone. I'm running PT 9 Native with my Digi 002, a Rosetta 800 connected through light-pipe, and a Rosetta 200 connected through S/PDIF. However, I would like to expand my number of i/o's.

I am curious about how people have set up their Native studios to take advantage of the 32-channel capability of PT9 Native. I would love to add more channels to my studio, or to replace the 002 with 8 premium i/o's, but I haven't found any threads where people discuss their new setups. Connectivity? Firewire? Or do you need some sort of PCI-e connection to move beyond 18 channels, like MADI? Unfortunately I have a new iMac Quad-Core, so PCI-e is not an option for me.

I think my dream setup would be to have 24 channels of premium conversion, ditching my Digi 002. Apogee, RADAR, Lynx, Burl... . 32 Channels is unnecessary for my purposes, but I'm interested in what people are doing (without upgrading to HD Native or the like.)

Thanks!

Ive been using a focusrite liquid saffire (firewire ) with great sucess lately.28 channels in 28 channels out.2 liquid pres and 6 focusrite pres,i have an ISA 428 with digital in the first adat port and an AD8000 in the second adat port in with true systems ,grace ,and UA pres all going in,then I have a lexicon reverb in and out of spdif and 2 tango 24 (8 channels each) into my mixing board, you can also use an apogee ad16 in and out but ive been using those on my mix plus system for remote/live recording.
Saffire has been pretty solid although the mix control software is an aquired taste...and I havent aquired a taste for it yet

Personus FireStudio Lightpipe and a rack of 4 D8's if I need them. I haven't and am probably going to pull the FSLP out of the rack. Still using my 003+D8+11R via SPDIF.

I second the D8's and also Digimax FS... I have 192's at home, but did some quality live recording with 3 D8's and one Digimax. Throw em in HD and put a little "HEAT" on and pretty amazing results i think. Actually the converters themselves sound pretty dang good... but had great mics, and even greater players, which IMO can outway "2nd class converters". SB

I was following your other thread BTW and glad to hear the whole tour went well. Hard to beat the FSLP + 4 D8's from a bang for the buck stand point. And they sound great.

Not running 18 right now. BLA sig hacked 003R with LS56 into the ADAT at the moment. Using a BLA Auteur into the 003R line ins with a couple of MS1bs.

I suppose I'd have 17 if I sent the Axe-FX spdif.

Currently using a Saffire pro56, and pro40 , together, feeding the pro40 ADAT from an Apogee AD8000 , and LS56 ADAT 1 from a Saffire Pro26 in standalone mode.

only issue is the way PT limits to 32 inputs, because it just counts the available hardware inputs reported by the driver, it counts the Pro40's SPDIF and loop back inputs , even though there are no paths assigned to them, , ditto the Liquid 56's SPDIF , so i can only get 26 real inputs running.... at present....

but other than that, sounds good, works reliably, and does pretty much what i want....

(what i actually want to be able to do is have 24 inputs from the desk, and 8 insert paths for patching in outboard direct into PT , currently putting up with just 2 inserts.... but one day maybe Avid will sort this out,.... or maybe not.... who can tell, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed.... )

in the meantime, when i REALLY want to use the additional I/O i resort to mixing in Logic.... which uses all 48 inputs and 52 outputs i have available, quite happily....

but most of the time we stick with Protools....
