Default audiovision to pro tools

My friends and peers... I am currently in great distress over what I should do when the PT 5.0 is shipped... if I upgrade to PT hardware and software ( for free ) I can not use audiovision. I am wondering if the only way to access all the projects I have archived as "Audiovision" projects on jazz and zip and even on DLT... is to reload them and save them as Protools ( export as protools 4.x) but will a $.x PT session be usable in the new 5.0 !!! and do I really have to do that... I mean I'v been using Audiovision for three years... I dont really want to have to bring more than a hundred projects back on line and export them as PT sessions... arghhhhh... digi will not be "supporting" AV much longer...so what do I do.

It seems kinda silly to only upgrade the software and stay at 16 bit and the useful but somewhat clunky AV when I can swap out my card and get PT 24 bit and for a couple grand upgrade my 888's to 24 bit and have 32 tracks.

By the way on a side note does anyone else have problems playing back a dense edit section in AV 4.1 v9 when the time line has more than 6 trks... how annoying. I'v remaid my drives... thrown out media data bases... rebuilt my desktop enuf times to have rebuilt rome itself and I still get the " disk not fast enuf to keep up with this clip "... and aifo take underun" ????????
sorry to blab on but my wife just glazes overand I need to talk with my cronies... help?

I responded to a couple of your other posts on these topics but to summarize...

You can install Pro Tools 5.0 software on your current PCI AudioVision configuration and use either app you want without swapping hardware.

Once you do upgrade the hardware to the D24, you don't have to upgrade the 888's, you can use the ones you are currenlty using.

The dense edit playback problem is probably just that. You should try bouncing those sections to disk to turn them into contiguous files . This should help the playback situation.

Be sure to check the "Disk cache" in the "Memory" control panel. You will want this set as low as possible. The "...disk not fast enough..." error is informing you that your intrnal HD (the one that is running your seq.) is not fast enough to run the seq., write and read data as a "disk cache", and get back to the next seq. request in time.

windog - I believe there is info in the 4.1v.7 release notes regarding your problems in playback of sequences with dense edits - There is a setting in the "console" window (be careful when entering info into this area) that might possibly help with slow disk errors. I will defer to Digitechs and/or the 4.1v7 release notes for the EXACT text you should enter - again, caution is in order as you must type exactly as instructed or it will not allow the entry, or worse, could possible create other operating problems. You can set the "Playback Sample Rate Slop" value to a higher number (I think it defaults to 5000) by increments of 5000. I believe I set my AudioVision to a value 10 or 15000 and it has reduced (though not eliminated) the frequency of this situation. Setting it too high could cause "glitches" to occur during playback so you'll have to experiment - Start at 10000, and if you still have disk speed errors, up it to 15000. I believe the release notes also has other info relating to this problem that might be of help. Could be just vodoo - but it has helped me when running 16 tracks with a load of edits.
