here is a full review in Pro Tools Expert.
this looks like a totally viable (free) alternative to Soundminer (with the "Spot to DAW" feature).

From an initial look, it doesn't have handles for spotting to timeline..
I could be wrong but I looked through all the prefs and couldn't find any option to set or add them. Bit of a downer for me..but people could work around it.

Its not close to the features that SoundMiner Pro offers.
However it might be handy for those, who used the PT browser as a sound effects finder and couldn't allow buying SMPro.

Unfortunately not a review, merely a copy of the press release. What order of ambisonics does it support? Can metadata also be edited? The output section looks good, but can I make my own layouts or import AllRADecoder JSON files? Guess I have to install to find out...

I don't think it's remotely a competitor for Soundminer, pretty sure it's not meant to be either. But it's still a very useful bit of software for where the whole armoury of Soundminer features aren't needed. The multi-channel features are good too - which is its main feature.

The one and only thing that I use Soundminer for is looking up SFX (based on keywords) and spotting them to my PT timeline. I do not use any of SM's editorial, batch conversion, sampling, etc... features. I do not even use ReWire for SM monitoring.

So if Sound Particles Explorer can simply ingest my current SFX libraries (and index relevant metadata) and then allow me to search that metadata, and spot to DAW, then it could (for me) be a viable (free) alternative to Soundminer.

I do realize that might not be the case for all current Soundminer users.
