Default Digital Sync Question

Ok if you have a PT session running at 44.1, and you have an external box that only outputs via AES a 48K signal that you want to be run into your session, what happens? Can't be done right?

I'm talking about the new AXE FX II which only outputs 48K. So if that went into the digital ins of say, an MBOX, or an Ensemble, it would not work in real time, correct?

Sorry confused on this..

TH

everything that came in from the FX II would sound slow and pitched down and would need to be reimported and SRCed to 44.1
also if you're trying to play to something that is pre-recorded it will sound fast and pitched up

Yup. I think you will have to use the analog outputs for the AXE, or import all the session data to a new 48K session(which will convert all the audio files that you already have).

It's weird because Cliff, the designer, says he uses his 48K Axe output digitally into his 44.1 session and his "soundcard" does the conversion on the fly. I've never heard of that.

The only Avid interface that can do this is the 192 when using the digital inputs on the digital expansion card. There is a checkbox in the hardware setup that enables the real-time sample rate conversion allowing for mismatched sample rates or unsynced clocking.
