Duplicate Air Music Files?
These files seem to be duplicated in two directory trees - can one of the two sets be deleted? Which One? Each set is burning about 2.5 GB.
(Installed around - mixed - 11/2015, 2/2020) C:/Program Files/Air Music Technology/Boom/Boom.big C:/Program Files/Air Music Technology/Mini Grand/Mini Grand.big C:/Program Files/Air Music Technology/XPand2/XPand2.big (Installed around 2/2020) C:/Program Files (x86)/Avid/Avid Virtual Instruments/Boom/Boom.big C:/Program Files (x86)/Avid/Avid Virtual Instruments/Mini Grand/Mini Grand.big C:/Program Files (x86)/Avid/Avid Virtual Instruments/XPand2.big |

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
The ones in Program Files (x86) may be old since that folder is designated for 32-bit applications. You could temporarily remove them and test that the VI's still work in Pro Tools. If you want to remove them permanently, check in Control Panel-Programs and Features and see if you can uninstall the Avid Virtual Instruments while keeping Air Music Technology. I don't foresee any problems to your system, but as always, make sure you have a backup of a working system.

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
Actually, the second set showed up most recently - AVID added a AIR virtual instruments package to the AVID Link app and I installed it.
Since I'm mainly interested in freeing up space on my C: drive, maybe a better solution: On a Windows 10 system, can I move both these directories to a different disk and symbolicly link the directories? C:/Program Files (x86)/Avid/Avid Virtual Instruments -> D:/...I thought this would be a no brainer, but in talking with the Waves guys, they didn't want their stuff moved of the C: drive (except for their virtual instrument samples directories). It looks like these directories are samples, but apparently, there are cases where programs can get into trouble if you move stuff and they don't go through the standard Windows file system access methods. |

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
I don't know if you could move them and relink them, but you might be able to uninstall them and change the directory they're installed to when you reinstall them.
Looking at my Avid account, I have Avid Virtual Instruments 10.0 and Air Creative Collection Instruments 11.3.1 installers listed under Legacy - so I think those for are the old 32-bit applications. The latest installer is named First Air Instruments Bundle 18.10, and I have a separate Xpand! 2018.10 installer. You should check your own Avid account, but I think you'd be safe uninstalling the old ones unless you're currently using Pro Tools 10 or 11 (you didn't state what operating system and Pro Tools version you're currently using).

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
Thanks again for your reply.
I'm on Windows 10 / Protools 2020.3 In AVID Link I see: First AIR Effects Bundle 2018.8.1 - installed First Air Instruments Bundle 2018.10 - installed XPand II 2018.10 - Installed. Below that are three installers with an "Open" button Avid Virtual Instruments 10.0 Installer AIR Creative Collection Instruments 11.3.1 Installer AIR Create Collection Effects 11.3.1 Installer AVID Link keeps telling me I have 1 product that is not installed and I thought maybe it was one of these so I tried them. There is a "Legacy Versions" Button at the top but when I click it it says I haven't linked my Avid Download account. I didn't know I had one. I have found the three installers at the bottom in my Control Panel - Programs and Features. I'll try uninstalling those (maybe after I backup). BTW - I asked AVID support about relocating and they said it would cause problems. Also said there are still some 32 bit software functions running around though I'm not sure whether they were referring to these as needing the 32 bit versions. |

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
Just to follow up.
I did remove the "legacy versions" and that got rid of the duplicate files under Program Files (x86). Just to be on the safe side, I also uninstalled and reinstalled the "current versions" of the AIR Instruments. Everything seems to be working OK afterward. I did have to set the library on Structure to point to C:ProgramData/Air Music Technology/Structure/Structure Factory Libraries It was originally pointing to C:ProgramData/Air Music Technology/Structure/Imported Audio which was empty. |

I'm really unclear as to why Avid Link is suggesting that I download what's already installed.

Re: Duplicate Air Music Files?
Avid explain the duplication here:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...-Tools-install These include Boom, DB-33, Mini Grand, Structure Free, Vacuum, Xpand2!, AIR Chorus, AIR Dynamic Delay, AIR FuzzWah, AIR Phaser, etc. The bundled instrument and effect plug-ins used to be included in the main Pro Tools installer, but this made the file over 4GB. Starting with Pro Tools 10 these were split out to separate installers. They have different names in each release. Pro Tools 12 and Later Run the AIR Effects Bundle, AIR Instruments Bundle, and XPand!2 installers (these are listed as First AIR Effects Bundle and First AIR Instruments Bundle in Application Manager, but they install the same plug-ins/versions)
