Steinberg Multi-Client ASIO Server with Protools
Hi,
I have a Steinberg UR 824 audio interface and have the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO driver installed. I downloaded and installed the Steinberg Multi-Client ASIO Server from here https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48 This server uses the installed ASIO driver and provides multiple clients for other software programs that use an ASIO driver. You are supposed to point this server to the asio driver and then configure any applications to use the "ASIO Client". I've rebooted, started the Multi-Client server and set the ASIO driver in this server to Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO. I can start REW and on their preferences page, if I have DRIVERS: ASIO, I can click the pull down for ASIO DEVICE and see the following selections: AVID ASIO DRIVER ASIO CLIENT AVID Eleven Rack ASIO Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO I selected ASIO CLIENT (for REW) and I can see in the server window that it has a REW Client that has registered. And if I use their tone generator, I can hear a tone from the monitors driven by my UR824. When I start protools (while ASIO MultiServer is running), and select Setup -> Playback Engine, the Playback Engine Pull down only shows: Windows Audio Device Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver If I select Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver I get AAE error -6117. So yes ASIO MultiServer has the Yamaha ASIO driver locked up, but protools is not giving me the option to select ASIO CLIENT like other applications. If I close the ASIO MultiServer, then Protools shows the Yamaha ASIO driver as selectable. Is there some work around or do you specifically want to prohibit this multi-client driver head from working with Protools? Last edited by ric982; 12-21-2017 at 06:08 PM. |

Re: Steinberg Multi-Client ASIO Server with Protools
Well - I guess I've already found a workaround for what I'm trying. It doesn't really answer the question of whether you want MultiClient ASIO to work with Protools so you may still want to answer that.
What I did do was let Protools use the Yamaha ASIO Driver and I redirected REW to use the Line Out as in: Drivers: JAVA Output Device: Line (Steinberg UR824) This results in REW -> Line Out -> UR824 (DAW Input) -> Monitor Out L/R I have Monitor Out L/R also direct to pair of UR824 ADATA Outputs that is wrapped to a pair of UR824 ADAT inputs which I can then use as an input to a Protools Audio Track. I case you're wondering what I'm trying to do it is something like this: REW Tone Generator -> Left Track w/ChannelStrip / Right Track w/Channel Strip -> -> Some AData Outputs -> UR824 HeadPhone Outputs -> Headphones -> Ears with Hearing Problems +/- Hearing Aids (and that is working now). |
