All of this...

My system has two 2tb Samsung NVME drives and I love 'em. I also like and recommend the Samsung T7 portable SSD drives. I have several and they travel back and forth with me everyday. They've never let me down.

It's time to ditch the mechanical drives.

The NVME drive is only useful if the OP is willing to spring for a TB enclosure for the drive. Otherwise, it’s a waste as the USB3 bus doesn’t have the bandwidth to accomodate the drive speed.

TB enclosures are VERY expensive in comparison to USB3 enclosures hence my recommendation. If price is not an issue, then yes, NVME and TB case.

What external drives are doing well with Pro Tools?

Thanks.

Everyone here is going on about transfer rates, but clearly, there's something else very wrong in this system; *ANY* drive should be capable of serving/recording a few tracks without issue; I mean, I run literally hundreds of tracks off a single spinner all the time without problems and all of us have been doing large sessions with single drives since well before SSDs were a thing. I would start with a long hard look at your peripheral setup - is the drive connected directly to the Mac or is it sharing a connection with any other peripherals (esp the UAD)? What else is on any of the peripheral chains. Strip it down to the most basic system and troubleshoot from there. This system should easily be capable of at least dozens of tracks regardless of drive spec.
