Due to the way the flat cables are routed, they probably fell into place properly

Yeah. I thank all for your help. Just to keep things real(clear) for future reference: The short answer seems to be that the slot numbers simply map to the bay numbers and vice versa.
IOW:
slot 1 from PCB board goes to AD card in bay 1;
slot 2 goes to DA card in bay 2;
slot 3 to digital io in bay 3;
slot 4 to DA (or whatever?) in bay 4.
BEWARE tho...i've yet to test everything.
