With all of the connections already available to MTRX, would the TB3 even be of interest?

That was what Mark wrote, actually some days less than a year before MTRX II got introduced, following the MTRX 1 to be discontinued.

I'm not convinced the MTRX chassis will have a fair value on the second-hand market, being a discontinued product. I'll just see what happens. Perhaps AVID comes up with a good trade-in deal eventually, perhaps I'll ad a DAD Core256 to the old MTRX, and perhaps I'll sell my whole HDX system because I'm a little done with AVID.

You can pay a premium tax of around €500,- euro's (because of the chip shortage) to have it delivered in June already. I guess it's not that DAD earns any money by that premium, it's just that the extra components DAD will have to resource for quick deliveries are sold for a premium to them too. The AX Center is an awesome box.

All marketing ploys to keep the money flowing....

Getting to be way to expensive to update .............soon it will be $10k to update every two years for an interface.

So that would be around $4550 for this unit.

NTP DAD AX64 Multi-Format Interface $5k.

I don't think that'll be the case. I just noted to myself to not be that stupid again to buy a converter end 2021/beginning 2022 that was introduced in 2016. Even though dealers and AVID themselves are telling (well, lying) that the product has a great lifespan still. The AX32 itself, which the MTRX is based on, even was introduced back in 2012. So it's to be expected that the new AX64 /MTRX II will have the actual promised lots of life ahead of it, at least till around 2030 if not longer.

Anyhow, the price stage at which the MTRX II chassis comes is just crazy. Imagine, if DAD wouldn't have sold their soul to the devil we probably could/would have had an AX64 with 2 digilink connectors for $4999 (with thunderbolt!) instead of $6999 (WITHOUT thunderbolt)

But hey, talking about life span, what's the big need for 2 proprietary AVID ports to connect to a card introduced back in 2011?

The cinema industry supports these prices.

Just a friendly reminder that there is no need to be concerned about MTRX lifespan at this stage. It is a fantastic box with lots of life ahead of it.

Since this has been brought up a few times on this thread I wanted to set the record straight.

At that time we were still able to get the components necessary to build MTRX, albeit in limited quantities, and did not have any intention of moving away from the product. As component availability changed, we needed to change as well.

Simple as that.

Come on Mark. At the time of writing the AX64 was just introduced, which the MTRX II is based on.

The MTRX 1 was based on the AX32, with 2 added digilink ports as the only difference between the MTRX and AX32 chassis, whereas the MTRX was selling for approx $1600 more than the AX32.

The MTRX II, based on the AX64, comes without the Thunderbolt 3 card that's pre-installed in an AX64. Also 16 channels of light pipe I/O are sacrificed compared to the AX64 to make room for the 2 digilink ports. That MTRX II is selling for $2000 more than the chassis it's based on, or even for $2799 more if you factor in the Thunderbolt 3 option card.

At the same time Jeff Rosica it telling this about the build costs of the MTRX II, quoted from the Q1 2023 earnings call transcript:

"The new MTRX II, which utilizes newer FPA technology that is less expensive and has better availability is expected to begin shipments during Q2 and should improve volumes and margins in this important product area."

It all doesn't make a lot of sense and it makes a lot of sen$e as well.

I wish AVID the best of luck selling this new MTRX II chassis to new, but especially to current customers.
