Default Can I partition and install Tiger on a new Intel Mac?

Hey all,

In light of the recent news from Digi that it still may be a while before we can run LE with Panther - does anyone know if it is possible to partition the boot drive of a currently new MacBook Pro or MacPro tower, and install Tiger on one of the two partitions - just for the short term?

I have seen no postings on this. Seems like a viable short-term solution if it works.

I've heard second-hand that the current round of Apples are not as friendly to older versions of Mac OSs being installed (even if they're Universal Binary).

Does anyone have any info on this?

Would be a big help if it works.

Thanks,
Mark in San Diego

Default Re: Can I partition and install Tiger on a new Intel Mac?

Hey Mark,
That was the info I got from apple. I am not able to load 10.4 on my new iMAC. They said it wasn't supported and when I went to buy a copy (on ebay) it said it would not work on my model. Plus not sure if you have to wipe out the disk to re-partition it.

So I went to plan-B:
Used bootcamp to install Windows XP-SP2, which installed great and boot camp created a windows partition without having to reformat the whole drive, therefore I didn't have to reinstall MAC OS. Pretty slick...

Read more about boot camp on apples site keyword: Boot Camp

Optimized XP for Pro-Tools and intalled PT 7.4. All is working well, including bundled plugins with my 003.

Hope that helps...
