ADAT Digital Interface

I've old hardware from a Session8 system.
So I want to know if it's possible to use the ADAT Digital Interface and ADAT recorder in combination with the DIGI001.
I've tried with the midi and optical connectors connected, with that I can choose to control ProTools LE OR the ADAT, not both at the same time.
In the S8 situation there is also a connection with the audio interface.
Can this be done for the DIGI001 to? Is the pinout the same, or is it impossible to use the ADAT in this way.

Edit start:
I tell you what I've done so far:
1 I connect the midiport from the 001 to the ADAT Digital Intrface.
2 I connect the optical cables between the 001 card and the ADAT
3 I connect the 9-pin cables between the ADAT Digital Intrface and the ADAT


This way I can control PTLE or the ADAT, not both at the same time.
It makes no difference if the 9-pin cables connected or not.
