Default Is SRS Circle Surround plugin DolbyPL compatible?

So I've got a client that says, "all channels of the Digibeta master should be encoded with Dolby ProLogic" but I have the SRS Circle Surround plugin. I cannot get any real answer from SRS (unable to contact) so just curious if anyone here knew the real answer.

Does program material encoded with the SRS plugin get properly downmixed (or subsequently decoded) as if it were with Dolby Pro Logic, or am I going to need to get the Dolby plugin? This is going to be a regular client so it's not an issue of being a one time thing. Thanks!!

I'm curious about this as well. I'm just setting up a 5.1 room and was considering the SRS as an ecoding option.

Hi.
The SRS encoded Lt/Rt will decode better with an SRS or Dolby Pro Logic II decoder, but is compatible with "legacy" decoders. The main issue your client may have is with licencing. Using the Dolby encoder entitles you to use the double D logo on your product. This may be important for your client's distributors as they may be using this logo, which does carry clout in the consumer market. Will anyone really know how it was encoded? Check with your client. I wouldn't take the chance.

Well, that true but you're leaving out one small detail: they like to collect their mandatory license fee too. Unfortunately. It could be a small fee, or a large one for a feature. I wouldn't put their logo on anything without paying, they'll sue you quickly (and they'd win).

Sorry for the bad news.

S.

The license I'm refering to is for broadcast and video and is free, as long as you use their logo. The Dolby TDM plug in encoder is not for feature releases. A Dolby engineer must come in for a SR-D and SR optical print master. In macaolics post he referred to a layback to a Digibeta video master, not a print master.

I would be using the SRS for encoding 5.1 via AC-3 for tv commercials. will this be compatible with the networks?

Earhole,
Just to make sure I understand your question, are you delivering a 5.1 discreet mix and an Lt./Rt?
Or are you just delivering an Lt/Rt and the network can decode it for there 5.1?

Well, I haven't done anything yet. It was my understanding that I should put a true Stereo mix on chennels 1&2 (Digital Beta) and an ecoded AC-3 5.1 mix folded down on tracks 3&4.
I am still in the research phaze and plan on talking with some of the networks about specs but any info is helpfull. Am I way off base?
