Default Automation Window Hardware Controller

Hey all

After leaving the keyboard and going for the mouse to hit the "Preview" automation and the "Punch Automation Preview" a couple of thousand times, I decided I had enough of this and I am ready to purchase a hardware controller if it is only for these two buttons.

If that controller could select tracks and change their automation status, then that would be a bonus, but not as important. I cannot afford an Icon and a C24 doesn't fit on my desk. I will be upgrading my desk to a Tascam DM3200, for monitoring hardware and to use it as a HUI controller but I doubt it that pony would do this trick.

Would the LED Part of the Artist Control give the ability to shortcut the "Preview" and the "Punch Automation Preview"?

Would anyone know if there anything else out there?

I've been wondering this as well if the soft keys can be assigned to thee functions. If so I will just get an Artist Transport and call it a day.

is there anything that has a key on it that does 'render' and 'preview' on Audiosuite plugins?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the LED Part but both the Touch Screen and the Soft Keys can access all of the advances automation functions (Preview, Punch Preview, Bypass Preview, Capture, etc....)

I don't actually have one (I own an Artist Mix and Control) but its my understanding that the Artist Transport can access all of the same functions as the Artist Control.

I don't believe that there is any board or set of buttons that can do this. I think that it is only location based in Pro Tools so you could only do it with Quick Keys. And even then it wouldn't work all that well because the Render and Preview buttons would move based on the size of the AudioSuite window.

Hey Mike, you're absolutely right.

Just ordered an airport extreme card for my PTHD rig. I tried V Control Pro with my PT10 system and indeed it works like a charm. Obviously no preview button there but the rest seems fine. Nice one!

On a different note though: I think it's just me, but I have a think for physical controllers and against wifi, that put's me off from having V-Control Pro permanently on my desk. I can see a lot of uses for a Artist Control and I think I might be parting with the cash for it.

Yeah, this would definitely pimp my studio!

Couldn't find a UK price but I can see it coming around £3000. But to be honest, it feels a bit gimmicky to me. I think I'll play my upgrade path safe and go to C24 when possible and to ICON, if ever.
