Default Clocking the Digi 001?

Is there any way to clock the 001 since there isn't any master word clock in/out?
There's been a lot of talk about external AD/DA's and I wanted to know how people are maintaining low jitter.

-You may resolve the Digi001 to an external RCA S/PDIF, Optical S/PDIF or ADAT Optical clock source.

Devices which can output RCA sS/PDIF clock include (but not limited to):

MOTU DTP:
http://www.motu.com

Nanosyncs:
http://www.rosendahl-studiotechnik.de/nanosyncs.html

Audio Clock:

Brent,

If I'm using the Presonus Digimax connected to the 001 through the Adat lightpipe, am I getting sync from that or do I need an additional sync connection?

Thanks!

So, Brent, just for the sake of clarity, are you saying that if I take ADAT out of a Rosetta, for instance, and simply input that to the 001 that is all that's needed to clock the 001? And then the jitter rate of the Rosetta would not be compromised by doing this?

can the digi 001 be clocked to a synth like my alesis qs8.1 via the lightpipe connector? willthat make the sound better for inputs on the digi oo1 breakout box?

tested it out, seems you can clock the digi to the optical output of a alesis qs8.1 synth. Weater or not it effects the audio inputs Im not certain, I tried recording to guitar tracks with the same settigns a general playing-coul dhave swornt he clocked version sounded a little smoother. maybe wishfull thinking, Digi any word on this concept?

I send my Digimax, which is clocked by the Rosetta, into the ADAT optical input - Sync Mode set to Optical. Apogee told me this setup would somehow also clock the 001’s inputs. I didn’t really get it at the time, but I makes since now if you think about it.

bassmac,

Why are you clocking the digimax from the rosetta if the digimax clocks the digi 001? I'm confused......unless the rosetta is feeding other units....right?
Also, is the rosetta a mic pre or just an ad/da?

I'll take a shot at this one (bassmac can either confirm or deny).

The Rosetta has no word clock in, so it must be the master. Since it has superior time-base characteristics (super low jitter) it would make sense to use it as the master anyway.

The Rosetta does not have a preamp, it is simply an A-to-D (no D-to-A). It does have great soft limiting and dither, however.

I use a Frontier Tango 24 thru the Adat Light Pipe I have the Tango set as master and Digi set as slave. The Tango's word clock out goes to Pod Pro or DBX 386
