Re: I think figured out why HDX isnt jumping off the shelf
I understand the pricing structure but
then I see HDN exchange $500 more than a second card !!!! I can understand how somebody would be EXTREMELY upset over this I bet if the individual card ALONE was a lot more money , people would feel alot less dirty when contemplating a upgrade like this. |

Re: I think figured out why HDX isnt jumping off the shelf
It's HORRIBLY overpriced, that's why.
Universal Audio just released the Octo UAD2 card that is probably very close in DSP for $1500. Combined with the fact that their plugins are better than ANYTHING else offered in AAXDSP (except Softube maybe). |

Re: I think figured out why HDX isnt jumping off the shelf
I dont think $6999 is overpriced for just a card but how much is the first card .
Do people still have to buy the interface with it to. Considering that people dont seem to have complaints about the TDM pricing structure the price for HDX and the interface is very good ! in my opinion but those exchange offers are like giving a TDM system away for next to nothing . and a second card is somehow cheaper than the first . making HDN worth almost nothing. Not exactly a good way to promote a basically new product . |

The UAD-2 accelerator cards only has 8 chips on them, whith no mention of their clock speed (hense power) while the HDX has 18 dsp chip at 350 mhz. Even if you had the strongest sharc chip at 450 mhz that still only gives you a 3600 mhz cumulative speed vs the 6300 mhz cumulative speed for HDX. That's almost twice the speed/power right there, probably more since you can't really calculate things there as the amount of physical ram on the cards can have a drastic effects. And it's very hard to actually do a proper comparison because there's absolutely no information what so ever about which sharc chip is used and what's the inboard memory available per card. After that you have to factor in the fact that the HDX cards offers 64 simultaneous inputs, the UAD-2 octo cards offers 0. So while a single card is 1500$ it's still far underpowered and under-featured vs the HDX card, from what can be determined at the moment. |

Re: I think figured out why HDX isnt jumping off the shelf
All good points and probably right on all of them BUT.............
There just doesn't seem to be much value for your money. And why make me buy an interface? I changed out my 192 last year for the new HD I/O and that was a HUGE step up, easily discernible and had an immediate impact on the sound and was a good value compared to the competition. Not so with this card I'm afraid. UA's plugins make Avid's offerings look REALLY bad. Shouldn't the industry standard DAW maker also put out the BEST plugs? |

The paid for AVID plugs are pretty good . I dont think anybody considers " MOST " plugs that come stock with PT are really intended for a real professionals . Just good stuff to get you going . No professional tennis player leaves the store bought strings on there racket ! or on a new guitar . Like tubes in a good amp , they are decent but far from the best. . answer NO THEY SHOULDN'T , BUT THEY DO IF YOU PAY FOR THEM |
