So what's the track record with new ProTools releases? I'm sure I'll migrate to PT 6 eventually, but should I wait for 6.1 so that more of the bugs will be worked out?

Kinda has to be, otherwise new macs as of Jan 2003 will not be capable of running PT as they will not boot on OS( or earlier according to an announcement recently from Apple.

The big quesiton that remains for me is how much will we have ot pay for the new version.....

all I will be saving is HD space and the constant rebooting to OS9x.
I dont mind that but it is a pain sometimes.
I love OSX, been running some wicked projects on it (After Effects) and its a must to have!

so mboxluvr does that mean you are running mbox and osx on the same machine...

from my brief reading of other peoples posts i thought that was impossible/illegal or deadly

good news as this is one of the things stopping me getting osx

cool!

Im running mBox on my OSX box but would have to boot to OS9.2 to do anything with it!
I dont know about the legalities but fill me in, I love the adrenaline rush:O)
But Im sure the rush of having PTLE running on OSX would suffice;O)

I guess Im one of the few lucky ones running PTLE, OS9.2 and OSX (10.1.5) on the same HD!
I just finished a massive motion graphics video project and I tell you, OSX held on with no hiccups at all!
I did have to reboot a few times to OS9.2 cause PTLE is great for cleaning up pops in v.o stuff and the best at laying out tracks for video!

I too am running PTLE 5.1.1 on the same HD as OS 9.2.2/10.1.5, with no problems at all (G4 933). To use PT, I just need to reboot to OS 9.2.
Pretty much the only thing I boot to OS 9 for nowadays. I agree- after a little getting use to, I like OS X. Especially the stability, protected memory, and a force quit that actually works all the time!
