Default PTLE WITH AN iMAC

Hey gang . . .

In theory, since I'm about to take the financial purchase plunge . . .

The new imacs are as fast as a G4 and they come with a flat screen for far less money.

So . . . couldn't you buy the new Digidesign
M box and hook it to a new iMac and install
PTLE and purchase a Presonus 8 port unit
and connect it to the Mbox via optical?

In other words . . . couldn't you be up and running in PTLE with an iMac and forego the
PCI card business?

Digidesign? Anyone?
Any thoughts?

Pete

I imagine that's the idea. I hope digi or someone will provide a chart comparing the mbox and 001 specs. I'm interested in wether or not there's a performance hit without the 001 PCI card.

Hmmmmm . . . bummer . . .

If the only digital input on the Mbox is
s/pdif that means only two track at a time
for recording.

How could one ever hope to record a drum set?

Also, the new imac's hard drive rotates at only 5400 rpm. Not quite ideal.
