Default Upgrade to 7.4 for elastic audio

Can my old Hd accel system go to 7.4 from 7.3?
MAC G5 PPC OSX 10.4.9 / PT 7.3 HD2 - I/O 192 /Control 24

I'd like to get Elastic audio.
Thanks.

And as a completely different aside..recommendations to the most cost effective upgrade which would provide similar power would be welcome. My old HD2
System works just fine for me and I have PT 9 on my laptop. But that old G5 Is a bit long in the tooth. Thanks.

Yes, it can. Scroll down about 2/3 to get PT 7 compatibility info.

It could also take Leopard and PT8 should you wish to be using more current plugins too. You didn't mention how much memory you have, but as long as you stay with Tiger and PT7 it shouldn't matter. PT8 on the other hand might enjoy seeing a little bit more due to the darker then-brand-new gui

If the cards are PCI-express (doubt that because only the last liqud-cooled G5's had that), you would just buy a "cheesecrater" Mac Pro. But assuming they're PCIX, you would perhaps consider moving to the Native-land. HDN gives you 64 i/o capability and your old interface is compatible with an adapter.

Current Macs are just so powerful that your HD2 feels aged once you really try it out. I have a fully-loaded late 2013 MBP and it smokes my old HD3 that I still keep using on live sessions. But bear in mind that these new slimmy laptops are not upgradeable later so you need to buy everything at once.

You could also bring a little more power to your old system by grabbin a now dirt cheap Accel card from eBay, makin it a HD3. It will run PT7.4 wonderfully on Tiger, as long as its power supply holds up, and it would be a very bad fortune if that failed.

Oh and one more thing. Your control surface only works up to PT10 (if it is that old Digidesign-branded C24 with Focusrite preamps) so keep that in mind when you plan on buying a new system... I have an Avid-branded C24 and it is supported. Just that when people are talking about C24 or Control24 they almost always forget to mention which brand

Here's an eBay listing of a reasonably priced 7.4 box with installers, in case you didn't already have a deal for the PT license.

If you don't have time to do full OSX clean install, then yes, I would uninstall PT first and the install 7.4 later
