Question Upgrading to Windows 7 question! Home or Pro decision.

I wanna get Pro Tools 9, so I am looking into Windows 7. One question is keeping me from choosing between Home and Professional. That is how important is having 'Windows XP compatibility Mode' that is included with Professional? Would this affect a Pro Tools setup in anyway or my current plugins?

Most punters around these traps use Windows 7 Professional 64. As for XP Mode, well, I've only used it once or twice, that did and did not do anything.

I use Home Premium and it's fine. From all my research and practice, the only thing that makes a difference is how much RAM you want to use, as Home Premium has a max limit of 16GB.

Wow, only 16GB? That isn't very much at all! Thanks!

Seriously, 16GB is ridiculous! Lol! I don't think I'd ever install more than 6GB for Pro Tools!

You won't be able to use more than 4gig with PT anyway.
As far as the version of Win7, I would go with pro. I needed the XP mode a few times for some plugins that didn't work in 7.
Oh, and don't check the DEP box!

When you are using multiple applications simultaneous, even 12+ GB becomes needed as Pro Tools and Operating System alone use 6 GB.

It's some kind of Malware button. Don't check it or none fo the plugins will work.

You will need more than 4 GB, Windows 7 uses over 1 GB if allowed. Leaving Pro Tools with less than 3 GB. Pro Tools accessing 4 GB is a beautiful thing.
