PT not recognizing Hard Drive as audio drive
Hey all,
I'm trying to record to my "E" drive which is a western digital IDE drive in a bytec firewire case. For some reason when I try to create a new session it says "Session must be on an Audio Volume". I've no clue ow to make the hard drive a valid audio volume. My setup is an 002r through a dell Inspiron 8500, 2.2 ghz, 512 ram, 30 gig system. The 002r is connected directly to the firewire port and the harddrive is daisy chained through the 002 rack. Windows XP service pack 1, PTLE 6.4 Any Ideas??? Thanks -Kevin

Re: PT not recognizing Hard Drive as audio drive
You can't daisy chain a harddrive through the 002, at least that's my understanding. Put the harddrive in it's own Firewire port, assuming you have a multiple.
From Answer Base, and I quote... "The second FireWire port on the Digi 002 is not intended for external hard drives or other storage devices, as this may result in unexpected behavior. It is recommended that Digi 002 be connected as the last device in the FireWire chain, or be connected to a dedicated FireWire port".

Re: PT not recognizing Hard Drive as audio drive
You can't daisy chain a hard drive in the 002 extra port. Did I say that already?

Re: PT not recognizing Hard Drive as audio drive
Just so everyone knows, It does work, to prove it I set 18 tracks to record and left it running for 30 minutes, when I came back it was still running, I figured that was good enough for me. Thanks for all your help everyone.

You CAN daisy chain via the second port !
For the record, it may be interesting to note the following:
- I was also under the impression that you couldn't use the second firewire port of the 002. However, for those of you that may have recently bought a Lacie D2 external drive, you will soon realise that the Lacie only has one firewire port (unlike some external drives which have 'A' and 'B' (i.e. two) firewire ports for chaining devices). This means that if you are using a Powerbook, for example, with only one firewire port and two external drives, you are obliged to connect the lacie to the digi as the last device in the chain. Which I did....and it works just fine! |

Re: PT not recognizing Hard Drive as audio drive
Kevin, I also have the Bytecc firewire enclosures and I have had my external drive unexpectly switch the workspace designation twice: once to "playback" and once to "transfer". I have no idea what causes it. The first time I actually moved my audio files and reformatted the HD. The second time, I looked for and found the "workspace" solution.
I would be interested in finding out how a HD can switch from Record to "Transfer or Playback Only." Is there any combination of CTR or ALT that can do this?
