Default JBL msc1 and 003 not working

Just hooked up the JBL msc1 room correction device and I can't get it to play the calibration tones thru my 003. it does not see the device driver only the computers sound card. I tried Rail Rogut's MME helper to no avail and made the 003 the default windows device for play back also to no avail. Audio does play through the device just not the calibration tones

thanks
Bryan

What did you hook it up to?

It doesn't need to go through the 003. If you're calibrating the speakers it just needs to go in front of the amp into the speakers. But if you insist, just treat it like any other armed audio track.

just as an update to complete this tread...The jbl msc unit can't use the digi asio driver ..you must use your pc's sound card...strange but true. so you have to get your pc's soundcard playing through your Studio monitors and then it will do the freq analysis. The unit does this for you by the way you patch through it...it took me a bit to get my head around it...you are probably brighter than i so just follow the guide exactly.....Used it on my last mix session in an unfamiliar space...not that convinced ..gonna give it a shot in a more familiar space. I also have the Ikmultimedia ARC system...very good ...but has the inherent problems of it being a master buss plugin that must be disabled before bouncing.... it does a freakout on your ears ...so if you trust the ARC curve ..leave the room when you bounce.
It is a dramatic eq shift when you turn it off..of course the drama is based on the amount of correction your space needed.
ok peace out.

No, you don't want it to go in front of the sound card. You don't mix through your sound card, do you? All your tuning is your amp and your speakers. Do you use an amp or externally powered speakers? Do you have an equalizer in front of your speakers? I'm guessing your set up consist of and should be hooked up as follows: Out of the 003 monitor outs > into the JBL > then into your amp or powered speakers. But when you're calibrating, the pink noise is picked up by the mic > adjusted in the JBL to be played back (flat response) by your speakers. If you move the mic around the room you'll get different readings so it should be in your sweet spot while making adjustments.

Thanks for the reply Rq but you are in error...there is no way to play the JBL test tones through the 003. You must use your Computers soundcard to play the test tones through your studio monitors to get the JBL unit to shoot the room...then re patch so your PT 003 unit plays through the JBL unit with the corrected EQ..I have the feeling you are thinking of things the way I did before an hour on the phone with JBL to get my head around the fact that you cannot use the asio digi driver to do the initial eq room read. It works this way...but I thought it was a crazy way to do it. But it is the only way.
Do you own one of these? I found the EQ read rather flawed ..my mixes didn't transfer well. Oh and the JBL only retains one read ...from a single position mic placement...unlike the ARC system which uses multiple room mic placements to get a more detailed room read and can store presets for multiple monitors.

Thats fine if you're trying to tune your soundcard. but you want to tune your amp and your speakers. When they say your soundcard they are actually referring to "unbeknowst to them," your 003. Think about it, you're not really listening to your soundcard now are you? Do you have your sound card hooked up to your speakers? No You HAVE to put it in front of the amp that is powering your speakers, or into your 003 as an audio track!

Just to clarify (hopefully) a bit, I do have my system wired properly .. 003 into the Jbl then to my powered monitors. The thing that confused me was not being able to have the JBL unit do the test through the 003. It doesn't recognise it as a playback devise. BUT the patching for the JBL test tone read DOES pass through the playback monitors.. using the computer soundcard to do the test tone playback. So it IS aligning the monitors I am using for my mixing playback. It just seemed a cheesy way to do it. Why wouldn't JBL support the DIGI playback device ....dunno.

RQ , you're a little hung up on the soundcard thing....I am not using it for anything but sine wave generation of the JBL test tones for it to calibrate the monitors...this is their setup..not an error in my usage. I agree
I would much rather have it run through the 003...that capability does not exist.

So ...i'm not much of an arguer .... but think about what I'm saying....
None of my music is going through the computer soundcard...only the initial test tones from JBL to set the EQ curve of their controller through my playback monitors....
peace out ..as the kids say...crap I'm old
:) bb

as a reply on second read .....sending the soundcard out through the 003 would be an interesting comparison to the eq curve output of the JBL unit... I'll have to try it to see if it works. peace bro
