I recently upgraded one of my Macs from Ventura to Sonoma, and the location of this setting has changed. See attached screenshot.
If you want the Edit/Mix tabs then set this to "Always", if not (like me) then set to "Never" (the default is "In Full Screen").

I am seeing Edit/Mix tabs when this is set to "Always". In my testing, you cannot change this settings while PT is open. Close your session, change this setting, then relaunch PT. Hope this helps.

tried it and nope, there's gotta be another setting, in the OS to change,
i have TABS in Finder, but not in Pro Tools, gotta be missing a step, or minimize vs maximize screen, i tried both, still nothing, if possible post all settings in Desktop & Dock, or a video, so frustrating, lol |

what other program can i try this on, ??
and what would be the command, shortcut, for New Tab within this app? what's weird is that it isn't even working on the Mac Finder Window itself, WHen i cmd+N. it opens new window, even though i have chosen : Prefer tabs when opening documents: Always" |

ok, i think i am a step closer, but not with Pro Tools, my Finder now opens new tabs.
you have to check the following, see pic, Finder>Settings>General and check. "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows" now Finder keeps same window, but opens tabs, tried Pro Tools again, and it's still a no go, Mixer Window opens as new window, or just swaps, depending if i'm in full screen or not..... ![]() we'll figure this out, if someone can post a video, with Sonoma, and Latest PT |

Any program with multiple windows.
Pick a program. Terminal.... Launch it. Create windows... Shell>New Window. Shell>New Window. Shell>New Window. If that does not work as the Tabs you are after you have a problem unrelated to Pro Tools. You are expecting folks here to spoon feed you and you need to be working harder to test/sort stuff out yourself. |

I have no idea what you are talkign abotu with Finder settings. They are modal dialog boxes, not normal multiple window apps so not sure that's a good test. Have you got it to work with some other app (what one?). I gave you the example of Terminal. What happens when you try exactly what I suggested?
It works in Sonoma and 2024.3. No idea what the problem is on your setup/what you are doing. And no you are not getting a video from me. Have you done any other troubleshooting yourself? Like trashing prefs (which includes some Windows settings)? Why don't you post a video of your setup not working. And show the app that does work. |
