Default Can't record instrument track 2 with MIDI...

Hello.

I just recently purchased an M-Audio MobilePre with Pro Tools SE so that I could start recording directly from my guitar. I am able to record with the guitar just fine. And I am capable of selecting notes in a MIDI session to write a little bass part with a synth to go under it. Now I want to add drums. So I opened a new instrument track, and chose a drum kit, but now whenever I open the MIDI window, it still shows the synth part I wrote and the "Inst 1" label at the top. How do I change this to "Inst 2" so that I can place some drum parts? Note when I say MIDI, I mean the virtual keyboard on the screen is all I am using to write these simple parts. I do not have any real keyboards plugged in.

Thanks.

In Mix or Edit window, double click on the name of the track (doesn't matter what type of track it is) and rename it to a more descriptive name. It is best practice to give each and every track in a session it's own distinctive name.

In the Midi Window, to the left you should see a 'Tracks' list. Select which track you want to edit and go to it. Select midi Merge button on transport if you want to record non-destructively....that is to say adding Midi whilst keeping what is already there. If Midi Merge is not engaged, existing Midi will be replaced.
