Default Help with Octopre connection to Pro Tools HD

Hello,
I have just purchased an Octopre Platinum mic pre and need to hook it up to my Pro Tools HD system. What is the best quality connection to use and what kind of cable do I need to get?
Thanks for any info you may be able to provide.
Rachel

get an analogue Sub D to Sub D Cable.

then connect the Line Output of your Octopre to the analogue Input of your 192.

hope that helps!

Hi Andi
Thank you for your reply. This sounds good. Would this be the best quality cable and connection? I have the 25pin AES/EBU cable that came with the 192. I tried plugging the pin into the octopre output and then the 4 male xlr cables into the pro tools xlr inputs 1-4 but could not get a signal. Shouldn't this work? Do I have to configure my I/O a certain way?
Thanks.

AES/EBU and XLR look the same, however they are not. In fact there are even (2) protocols for wiring within each AES/EBU and XLR DSUB snakes where the wiring could be reversed. What I mean is that there's a TASCAM FORMAT and YAMAHA format that the industry follows---two for multi-channel AES and two for multi-channel Analog. Now let's say you were to go AES/EBU out of the Octopre using their AES option.... and AES into the 192..... this wouldn't be the best connection because the converters on the Octopre are NOWHERE near those of the 192I/O interface. In this case, analog is better as suggested---- You need an analog DB25 to DB25 snake that follows the TASCAM protocol. Basically, this is MONSTER, MOGAMI, LIVEWIRE, PROCO, etc. Do this, you'll get the best results---and be just fine.

Brad
Thanks a lot for the info. I ordered the cable today and it will be here tomorrow.
I'll certainly keep your contact info if I need to get some new gear in the future I'll give you a ring.

Andi
Thanks also for the info on the right cable and the link; that is the cable I ordered.
Best,
Rachel

I have hooked up the sub d output of the Octopre into the sub d analog input of the 192. I am new to this so need some help. How do I get a signal now through the Octopre? Do I need to configure my I/O setup a certain way? Do channels 1-8 on the pro tools correspond to ch 1-8 on the Octopre?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Rachel
