Default Reason as an Instrument Track

When I'm using Reason as an Instrument Track, I can record my notes, hear the sounds, and the notes will appear in the MIDI track, but the track is greyed out and there is no sound on playback?
In Reason, I do not use the 14 x 2 mixer, but instead use the 64 outputs directly to Pro Tools, so
in the Instrument track I assign Reason, and use its output 13, as well as output 1-2 of PT. I had read somewhere that you have to assign some kind of input on the track (A1, A2, etc) but this does not seem to make any difference. Anything else like Xpand will work fine...am I missing something?

Haha.. just went thru this today..

Instruments tracks are cool, funky new things

On the instrument track with Reason on it make sure you set your view to show instrument (edit/mix window shows instrument).. In that view there will be an output assignment to reason, whatever virtual machines you have open in reason will show up here.. select the one you want and bingo..

have fun

Quite a bit.
I hope this helps:

Rewire reason-outputs all need their separate inputs (Aux's) inside of Pro Tools and / or separate record tracks (input enabled) to hear all you've patched.

An instrument track is a hybrid aux and midi track combo. If it is grayed out than your not midi-connected to an instrument. (i.e. Subtractor ect...) (View Instrument column in PT’s)

If your hearing-control of reason with no Pro Tools midi / instrument tracks record enabled then your Reason preferences and sequencer need to be disconnected from your midi controller.

Use the mixers in Reason to monitor your reason sounds.
Use the Reason Audio Splitters and set up discrete outs to Pro Tools inputs for tracking.
A perfect place to have templates constructed for it is a bit of patching.
