Default Pro Tools LE System- Missing Audio Files/No Relink

I am experiencing a major problem. First, I have recorded a session without experiencing any problems. Before closing the session out, we saved the file. When opening the session over again, the only track that was visable was the "beat". The vocal tracks where there, but shaded gray. It mentioned that the audio tracks were missing, but when we tried to relink automatically, nothing happen.

Also to consider, there are multiple copies of this session (with the same name) located in different drives (incl. external hard-drives). This was recorded from the version that was on the desktop.

I have an ASCAP Conference to attend tomorrow and need to get the vocals back...

One more thing, a copy was dragged onto the desktop and when it would not play it was thrown in the trash bin. The trash bin was emptied. However, the original information was not deleted, only the copied information.

Version of ProTools: LE

Mac G4

Operating System: Mac OSX

check the disk allocation for the session you recorded to. note where the vocal takes are allocated

go to your project browser and select the missing file. go to the toolbox menu and hit relink file. a new window project browser window will open and hit the "find links" button to search for the missing audio. if you uncheck the drives where you know the audio doesn't exist (from the disk allocation window), the process will go faster. commit your links and you should be good.

surely you understand that audio files are not stored within the session file, don't you? now most probable cause for your trouble is that you have recorded your audio to an external hard drive, which was mounted then but is not mounted now. this can happen easily, if you have set "round-robin" allocation on (which means that all audio files are distributed evenly to all recording drives).

so, the solution might be simpler than you have thought, or if it isn't, do as bassntreble said.
