Default Pro Tools 888 / 882 Connection Issue

Is there any trick to getting a Pro Tools 882/20 and a 888/24 to both run on a Mix TDM System? Do you have to have the 888 as the master or does it make a difference? I used to have 2 882's but swapped one the 2nd 882 for a 888 so I could record at 24 bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Russ

I would use the 888/24 as the master and the 888/20 as the slave. Then you go and trash the Pro Tools & Digisetup prefs. Empty the trash and restart your computer. Then launch Pro Tools. It will then ask to select your Hardware. Your done.

You will save one DSP chip connecting both with an Y cable.

Your system still thinks it's talking to 2 882's. You need to reset your device selection by deleting the digisetup pref file, reboot, when you restart protools it will ask for your new hardware IO settings. You can use the two devices in either order. If you have an external clock I would use that for 256x word, otherwise use the 888 as the master clock. I believe the clock on the 888/24 is better than the clock on the 882/20, although I wouldnt' place a bet on it. The good part of having both devices is that you can use the 882/20 for CD and -10 IO and the 888 for +4 IO as well as utilizing the analog and digital outs simutaniously on the 888.

cheers
