Default PT5, Magma, G4

I'm trying to run PT5 mix plus on G4 350 Mhz with magma 7 slot chasis. Somehow G4 dosn't recongnize magma chasis. Don't remember exactly but after PT5 installation the computer screen shows DAE can't create something (no 'error number' sign though). I used a test program that came with magma. But it shows computer can't detect any cards. I installed cards in proper order. Is G4 not compatible with PT5 and magma? your help is greatly appreciated.

It IS compatible. I'm running the same setup. Maybe the problem is your card config in the computer. Have you installed the Magma host card in the same slot the manual states?

If it doesn't work I can write down my config.

Thanks combi. What do you mean by manual state? Could you please tell me your system's configuration? I have G4, magma 7 slots, adaptec acceleration card, and PT5 mix plus. Magma includes core, and farm cards. I put a core card closest to the power supply (#4 slot). And the farms next to it(#5, 6 so on). By the way do I have to initialize hard disks with certain programs such as FWB? Also tech support please help me, why do my screen shows 'DAE can't create' after installation of PT5?

Hi

You should put the Magma chassicard closest to the
powersuply then the core and farms.
Make shure that it is the right Magamacard in the chassi.

Good luck
/Eric

Exactly Eric.

My Magma (left to right):
Host card
Mix Core
DSP Farm
Extra monitor card

My Computer (1-4):
Monitor
Chassi cable
DC-30 Video Card
SCSI-Accelerator card

Works excellent. I think the big thing is to have the Host Card closest to the Power supply in the chassi as Eric wrote, otherwise the G4 won't recognize the Magma.

it must be the farm card. I did installed host card closest to the power supply but no avail. Also in the order of graphic, magma , and scsi accelerator card. Now the computer keeps crashing. Something must be wrong.

Philee-
I have achieved success with my Magma 7. The problem was due to a DSP (vintage)farm card in the Magma.I now have only mix core, mix farm and D24 cards in the Magma and all is well.FYI,I am also running an Adaptec AHA39160M card in the G4/400 with no problems.

It sounds like the "vintage farm" needs to be updated. There is a Large chip on the farm card that has the letters AMCC in large white type. On that chip there will be a number - something like 13479Q -

Unless it ends with "QC" or higher, like "QE" or even "QF" then it will not work in a chassis. Contact tech support to find out about how you can have your card upgraded to be compatiable. 650-842-6699
