Mac OS - still using High Sierra - should I upgrade to Mojave?

I know Catalina is the latest OS, but I'm still using High Sierra which I've found to be very stable. Don't want to go to Catalina as I'm not reading good things about compatibility with PT so far, but is an upgrade to Mojave, which has been supported by Avid since November, worthwhile?

Is there anything you’re missing? Any new plugins that require a new OS? If not, stay where you are.

There’s no need to upgrade anything if it’s working fine. My main rig is running Sierra. I’m slowly building in my downtime a Mojave partition which I will Park there for a while. I don’t plan on going higher until I purchase a new machine within the next couple of years.

You can always dual boot if need be.

I use Avid Control a lot. There seems to be some issues with High Sierra and The latest Avid Control that I’m thinking of upgrading to Mojave.


Too many security issues with Catalina from what I’ve gathered. Until I see it’s super stable, I’ll hold off.

I went from HS to Mojave myself recently, everything is running great on latest PT Ultimate. No clean install either, just put on top of current install. Downtime was very minimal & I recommend to keep up with the times.

Mojave has been supported since 2019.5

Much of the answer given to you depends on your hardware. If if is very old, perhaps better stay in your happy land and wait for a hardware upgrade first.

I have 3 Mac Pro 2013 12 Core running 2 with HS, one with Mojave. all 3 running Ipad Control, Dock and S1.

Mojave one is less stable than other 2.. So i didnt upgrade to Mojave unless really needed ..
