Recording Error
new to the board. rookie question. go easy on me.
i'm running a Macbook Pro with 4g of ram and a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with Pro Tools version 7.4.2. (yes - i still need to update.) all sessions are being tracked to a 250g/7200rpm G-Tech drive. however, when i try to do a basic session with 4 tracks (using a low buffer setting) i can't record for more than 5 minutes without getting an error saying the disk is full. im wanting to record a half hour performance. should this be possible with an LE system and the computer set up that i have? i am not using any plug ins. is there something in the preferences that can help eliminate this problem? |

Re: Recording Error
you might wanna check yur drive to see if its formatted for ntfs or fat32. i believe fat32 max file it can hold is 4gb and if yur 4 tracks are exceeding 4gb it might cause it to say full. ntfs format is unlimited.

Re: Recording Error
I think for a Mac, you want to format the firewire drive as HFS+ FAT32 drive support is just about dead with PT, depending on what OS you have(adding that info might help the Mac experts give the best advice).

Re: Recording Error
Uhhh.. I really doubt this has to do with how the disc is formatted..
4 tracks for 5 minutes? That is never correct. Check to see what your disc allocation is in Protools.. Setup menu, I believe... Also, the more obvious questions... Is it full? Or close to full? Are you using it as a USB drive or FW? Also, what version of OSX? 7.4.2 usually means Leopard.. What kind of ProToolsLE interface are you using?

Re: Recording Error
the drive is FW 800. 7200 rpm.
the drive is nowhere near being full. im using an Mbox Mini with 7.4.2. if i wanted to format the firewire drive as HFS+, how would i do that? do most drives need to be formatted strait out of the box? |

Re: Recording Error
If you bought this drive and mounted it out of the box without formatting, it may in fact be formatted as fat32. Did the box specify whether it was for mac or pc? Go to disk utility in the apps folder under utilities and check what format it currently is. Reformat hfs+ assuming it's not already. EDIT: Partition as hfs+...

Re: Recording Error
P.S.
For future reference... Always reformat a new drive out of the box, whether it says it's formatted for Mac or not. Saves a lot of headaches, and is the best way to ensure the drive will work properly with your Mac.
