noise/distortion on recorded audio
I am new here, but have lurked for a while.
I can not say how much I would appreciate help on this......me going crazy to record. Picture this: your me (sorry about that), you have protools 5.x on your pentium 3 laptop (with enough RAM and HD space). Every time you record a vocal or instrument track, it becomes distorted after a few seconds of playback. any help is GREATLY appreciated. I've been stumped for a week. |

Re: noise/distortion on recorded audio
have you tried to import a know good file to see if it's distoring on record or playback.. or both...
if you haven't take a sound file that you know is good. Import it into protools and play it. Does it distort on output or not. Might help to troubleshoot to know if its happening to ALL Files or only stuff recorded, or ony one recording, or only on playback. export a file you've recorded and listen to in with QT or MP s/w out the standard laptop audio out.. when you look at the recorded audio file, do you see distortion or does the waveform look ok? cheers georgia

Re: noise/distortion on recorded audio
Internal drives on laptops are waaaay too slow, generally speaking, to record audio. I would suggest getting a firewire pcmcia card and connecting a 7200 rpm drive to it. (If you don't already have a firwire port)
