Reformatted PC and now Pro Tools 8 won't work? (Unable to locate hardware)
Hi guys,
So, I've been scouring these forums to find a solution to my stated problem - unable to locate hardware. And, yes, I'm new here, so if I do anything taboo please let me know. Anyways, I reformatted my computer the other day and tried to re-install Pro Tools to no avail. It's so frustrating because I've done the same before -reformat and re-install - with no issues. However, this time my computer doesn't even recognize the speakers plugged into my m-audio box (via manage audio device). Under sound controllers, fast track pro is recognized, fortunately. So far, I've tried re-installing numerous times, updating to 8.0.5, etc., but I can't solve this problem. Any ideas other than trying to use the m-audio box on a different PC to see if it truly is the hardware? This option is unavailable to me. Thanks! |

Can you go through this and post back: Help us help you - READ THIS before posting! - Avid Pro Audio Community
You could also try downloading Audacity and try recording in it, for testing: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Are you using the latest drivers from: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ck-Pro-Drivers Joel

Re: Reformatted PC and now Pro Tools 8 won't work? (Unable to locate hardware)
and you ARE installing M-Powered Pro Tools, right?(LE does not work with M-Audio hardware). Beyond that, what step(s) might you have forgotten this time around? All the system tweaks done? Quicktime installed? iLok driver installed? Now, excuse me while I jump up on my soap box...this is yet another case fro drive imaging.(how can I get this across to the entire world???) If you save a drive image when all is working well, then reverting is beyond simple and saves you hours and hours........Look at Acronis True Image(and similar) and get one of those programs now...today...DO IT. Then, when you get the problem solved, save an image to any external drive for future use(I keep a pair of 2TB USB drives that do nothing but images of the system drive for all 6 of my computers, and images of the system drive for my pro tools machine in several states; image1(just Windows with all tweaks), image2(with just Pro Tools, tested and good), image3(everything installed and working).
