My guess to Rails question, would be:

Vocals - Live
Backing Trent Reznors - Obviously pre-recorded, duh...
Guitars - Pre-recorded backing tracks to keep continuity. With live tracks fed through for feel...
Bass - See above.
Drums - Most percussion pre-recorded, with main drums live.
Synths - Pre-recorded as well, minus a melody hook here and there.

All in all, this tour has been he BEST sounding one yet, but, also, the less involved member wise. No one really seems to "care" much about their performance, which leads me to believe my suspicions above. In the previous tour, there was lots of flukes in the performance...But, I believe a lot of that was prerecorded as well..

There is an obvious reason why the songs always play through, and why there is never a "Lets start this over" moment.

In the latest concert I went to where the drummer collapsed on the stage, basic drums and percs were still magically playing in the backround.

We just got back from NY. My wife ran the NY Marathon. It was a blast! What a city- but good to be back in Atlanta, GA.

Actually, I wish I could remember the source (maybe REMIX, or Electronic Musician) but back around the time with teeth was released, and I managed to catch nails on their small venue tour (The Orpheum in Boston) I did read about the extensive effort on NIN part to be able to reproduce live all the keyboard sounds off the album for their tour. I believe even the 'Sunspots' solo is reproduced live.

I had awesome pre-sale tickets for their show at the Boston Garden (TD Banknorth Arena) two weeks ago, but sadly had to pass up the show because of a death in the family, but I can't help but to really wish I had gone, from all the personal accounts I hear about this tour.

- cheers
