It was whatever BIOS was available in summer of 2010...how do I check which BIOS I have...I can't get the boot screen to freeze long enough to read the version

Hold Delete through the splash screen.

FI BIOS, version 1.6 on the Mobo....tried two other hard drives (Maxtors) and still keep getting same error....F*CK F*CK F*CK

Yes...still no luck...thinking I may have a bad Win7 disk>>>its the only thing left that could be a problem no?

Yeah, replace that Windows disc and try again. Good luck.

If you have any other hard drives connected (internal and/or external), disconnect them and restart installation.

only have the one new drive attached plus two DVD drives

OK, finally got it to install. Needed to delete the partitions that were on the drive and then add NEW partittions, then no problem....unbelievable how simple the solution was. Painful too given I was convinced the Install disk was faulty and went and bought another copy for $175....oh well, live and learn....next phase, install video and other required drivers and then on to Protools installation. Watch this space
