Weird problem with 002 sticking faders
Hi all. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this problem for me. I have a 002 that I have been using in a small studio in my house. I recently moved the studio to the basement, and now I'm having a strange problem with the faders on the 002. They are acting as if they don't know I am touching them, in other words, they are resisting when I try to move them. It happens all the time, but they will jerk on and off, as if they are confused as to whether or not they are being touched, and I've discovered that the more metal surface area I touch (on the face of the 002, next to the faders) the less it is a problem. If I try moving a fader without touching the 002 anywhere else, it won't budge. If I put all 5 fingers of the other hand on the metal surface, it works fine.
If I remember anything from my electrical engineering classes, it seems that this is a grounding problem, but I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried connecting to different outlets, ground lifting the 002, etc.. and nothing has helped. The G4 is connected to an APC power supply (battery backup) and the 002 is connected to the same box. The APC has a light on it to indicate if there is faulty wiring (i.e. a disconnected ground) and this light is off. Like I said, I've also tried connecting the 002 to a different outlet, which is on a completely different electrical circuit, and I've had the same problem.
So... anyone have any ideas? I'd love to hear any suggestions or tips. Thanks in advance!
