Default Another unhappy customer...

10 years user of Protools, never had one fully stable version. I've always done EVERYTHING necessary to keep protools and the studio computer "happy". Yet, the system "unexpectedly" crashes. I've had many different types of crashes over the years, the last ones leading me to believe my computer wasn't powerful enough (mac pro 12 cores with 24GB of RAM), so I went and bought an HDX card, thinking it would solve my problems... haha, what a joke.

Spending hours trouble shooting and doing everything Avid had told me to (also remembering that my studio computer ONLY has protools installed on it, nothing else, it's not even connected to the net) still leads to crashes every 5 mins and won't let me create high sample rates sessions.

All I have to say is: Thanks avid for wasting my time and money.
I will ensure that the 100 new audio students I teach every year know that they should really look elsewhere for stable DAW...

Sorry to hear that mate. What kind of error message do you get now?

What system do you have at the moment? I mean the exact system specification.

Obviously something is very wrong, but I would not point the finger straight to PT software. I also have HDX and PT10HD and I do suffer a lot from the DAE -9171 and -9172 errors which is really annoying. But that bug is documented. However apart from that the system is ... well ... stable(-ish).

Okay what I want to say is that while people do suffer from crashes (some more than others) we usually get an error. The program doesn't just close without notification. So please share with us your specs and I am sure we'll be able to give you some suggestions.

Not sure what you mean by exact system specs, but here's some of it:
Mac Pro (2010) 12-core 2.6GHz, 24GB RAM, OSX10.6.8, PTHD10.3.2, HD I/O
On the computer itself, only PT and (all legit) third party plugins from Sonnox, Plugin alliance, Waves, Fxpansion, ReFx, Antares, Flux, Massey, Native Instruments, Slate, Keilwerth.
As I said, no error message on crash, it just quits.

To tell you the truth, my post isn't so much of a call for help as it is a general disgruntled message to avid. Since PT has never been stable, I've learnt to deal with it, and make up bullish*t excuses to my clients in every session.

It just frustrates me that I got conned into buying a $10k system that works just as bad as the $500 one I had up to this year...

14 years!
Have you ever thought about that PT is not the problem?

Can't even remember the last time Pro Tools crashed.

Hi,

Have you looked at User / Library /Logs ... crash reporter to see if the crash logs indicate anything. and also the Avid logs "dlog" files. you can send the dlog's into Avid.

Total quits could be hardware / Ram etc

Hope you find the issue.
