Default Summit Audio 2BA-221

Anybody using the Summit Audio 2BA-221 preamp? Or the Vintech model 473?

Edwardo,
I used the Summit in a pro studio and it was nothing short of amazing with the Soundelux U99 on vocals. Great piece of pro equipment at an incredible price. The guys at the studio use it daily for pro work with local movie stars and advertisement -TV commercial work so it has to be decent quality. They use it with an AT 4050 for vocal work but because of its design should work with a broad range of mics.
I haven't heard that 473 pre yet but I've heard it is spectacular. I use a simlar pre in the MP2NV and love it for vocal and guitar work. That was my favorite pre with the U99.

I have the 2BA-221 and a Vintech X73i they both work great for different things. I had the 2BA-221 first then got the Vintech.

When I first used the Vintech I would have to say it wasn't necessarily better it was just different. Cleaner but still warm and it has EQ which is great.
But the 2BA-221 can achieve quite a few different sounds. Real clean like the Vintech when you have no tube dialed in, real warm and fat with the tube cranked up.
Variable impedance will give you different colors also. For bass it's pretty good.
For vocals it really shines.
I got mine from a friend that does FOH for Seven Dust. The 2BA-221 combined with the Summit TLA-50 is what he uses live for there lead vocalist. At least the last time I spoke to him this is what he was using.

It works for him. It works for me.

The Vintech is also great for vocals. Granted I don't have the 473 but it is the same pre in my X73i I believe. The Vintech seams to stack better when doing a lot of tracks. I use it either with my TLA-50 or my Distressor. It's beautiful. Now the 2BA-221 can do some incredible things when you really really crank the hell out of the tube knob. It gets real crunchy but still sounds great on some vocals.

I could go on and on.

I don't have the 473 but I plan on adding one to my collection real soon for drum etc....... The power supply that I got with my X73i will power another X73i and a 473. So that’s where I'm heading with that.

I would try before you buy if you can because no one knows what will work for your needs except you.

Good Luck!

KC

Thanks a lot for the replies. Positive nods to both machines, which is what I expected after reading some reviews. I plan to give them a try.
