Default can\'t hear guitar

hey there , i'm not sure of what i did but i can only hear my guitar when track is record enabled and i can't rehearse cause when i hit play i don't hear it either ,,, the only way i can rehearse is to record the track and then undo record until i'm comfortable with what i've played . i used to be able to hear what i was playing without recording it , any suggestions???? thanx

Switch to input only monitoring(Alt-K I think) or add an aux track set to the same input and monitor your guitar from the aux track until you are ready to record. If you record and don't like what you did, when you hit STOP, before you do anything else, hit ctrl-z and your new audio will disappear like it was never there. This trick is handy when punching in because it will put you exactly where you started to do the punch-in again.

This isn't just a guitar thing - right? When I record multiple tracks, the same situation occurs & I basically record the tracks & then hit the cntrl z thing & they disappear. I've always thought that the process was a bit backward - that you should be able to play the tracks back & hear the input of the new track (guitar or whatever) without actually recording it.
