I have to say it's really ridiculous that avid expects everyone to have access to the mac/os/pt combo necessary to do the update properly. They really need to start shipping cards already updated or fix the software to work in any of the pt hd9 or hd10 compatible systems. If you're building a system from scratch and don't have access to a system that will boot with sl, you're screwed. (with the exception of Buccanear's report above)

Either your dealer should do it for you for free or Avid should cover the FedEx charges to do it in house.

I actually have access to what I need to do it, it's just an extra pita. However, many people do not and it's yet again one more thing Avid makes us pickup the slack on. It's just not right with all the reports of installs taking a day or longer because of these issues. Even if they pay for it, why should someone have to send a brand new card back to them? They should just fix it. Maybe they already have, I don't know. I'll be finding out soon enough.

I tried booting of the 10.6 DVD and it just said that it couldnt install this software on this computer.

Any suggestions
1) Start your Mac from OSX 10.6.8 partition.
2) Launch Disk Utility.app and format a new partition with HFS+.
3) Insert 10.6 DVD.
4) Launch Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities/), and type:
open /Volumes/Mac*Install*/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg
5) Install OSX 10.6 to the new partition.
6) Don't reboot after installation.
7) Launch 10.6.7 Combo Update, and apply it to the new partition (This step may not be necessary if using Pro Tools 9.0.5 or 6).
8) Reboot from the new partition.
9) Install Pro Tools 9.0.6 or 10.0.0 to update the firmware of HD Native card.

I'm on an 1st gen Mac Pro with 10.7.2 and updated the HDN card firmware with no problems.

I'm surprised Avid isn't shipping Native cards already updated to the latest version of the firmware. I would think if they're doing final function testing or burnin at Avid they'd be running the latest version of the software and firmware on their test sets/ test beds.

Wonder if we can get an answer on this from DTS?

It's imperative this gets fixed, and soon. They're already behind on the HDX cards and slipping bad on the target dates so people looking to build a decent system are looking to HD Native.

One thing I have asked on a Mac board is whether using a Mac with SL and target mode with a Lion MacPro will get full access to the MacPro's pcie slots. The consensus seems to think it won't work; not that it won't boot, but access to the pcie slots may not happen.

Did you get your card direct from Avid or someone else like Sweetwater?
