i7 Build - BSOD
Hey everybody,
I've been trying to get this i7 build up and running for WAY too long. For some reason it seems I'm running into every possible problem. I even paid someone to make sure all the drivers were installed and the system was running properly. The machine runs slow for how fast it should be. For example, when I open PT it takes a couple of seconds to even open up the PT loading window. Before PT can open, I get a hard blue screen force restart. The error message is "BAD_POOL_HEADER" 0x00000019. I'm running PT8. I believe this has something to do with RAM but I really have no clue beyond that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, James Here's the sandra: SiSoftware Sandra Computer Model : GigaByte X58A-UD3R Workgroup : WORKGROUP Host Name : PTRIG-PC User : PT RIG Processor Model : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz Speed : 3.1GHz Cores per Processor : 4 Unit(s) Threads per Core : 2 Unit(s) Type : Quad-Core Integrated Data Cache : 4x 32kB, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L2 Cache : 4x 256kB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L3 Cache : 8MB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 16-way, Exclusive, 64 byte line size, 16 threads sharing Computer Mainboard : GigaByte X58A-UD3R BIOS : Award (OEM) FB 08/24/2010 Bus(es) : X-Bus PCI PCIe IMB USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBus Multi-Processor (MP) Support : No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (APIC) : Yes Total Memory : 6GB DIMM DDR3 Chipset Model : Giga-Byte X58 I/O Hub Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.43GHz (4.86GHz) Chipset Model : Giga-Byte Core Desktop (Bloomfield) UnCore Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.43GHz (4.86GHz) Total Memory : 6GB DIMM DDR3 Channels : 3 Memory Bus Speed : 400MHz Memory Module(s) Memory Module : OCZ OCZ3BST2000C8LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) Memory Module : OCZ OCZ3BST2000C8LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) Memory Module : OCZ OCZ3BST2000C8LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) Video System Video Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 5450 (80 SM5.0 650MHz, 512MB DDR3 800MHz 64-bit, PCIe 2.00 x16) Graphics Processor OpenCL GP Processor : ATI Radeon HD 5450 (80SP 2C 650MHz, 512MB DDR3 800MHz 64-bit) Compute Shader Processor : ATI Radeon HD 5450 (80SP 650MHz, 512MB DDR3 800MHz 64-bit) STREAM GP Processor : ATI Radeon HD 5450 (1SP 2C 650MHz, 512MB DDR3 800MHz 64-bit) Storage Devices WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (1TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) : 932GB (C:) WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (1TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) : 932GB (E:) HP DVD Writer 1270r (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) : N/A (D:) Logical Storage Devices System Reserved : 100MB (NTFS) Sessions (E:) : 932GB (NTFS) @ WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (1TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) Hard Disk (C:) : 931GB (NTFS) @ WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (1TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) Optical Drive (D:) : N/A @ HP DVD Writer 1270r (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) Peripherals LPC Hub Controller 1 : Giga-Byte LPC Interface Controller LPC Legacy Controller 1 : ITE IT8720F Audio Device : Giga-Byte HD Audio Controller Audio Device : PC Partner Manhattan HDMI Audio [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] Audio Codec : ATI (AMD) HDMI Audio Disk Controller : Giga-Byte 4 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller : Giga-Byte 2 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller : Giga-Byte 88SE91A3 SATA-600 Controller Disk Controller : Giga-Byte JMB36X PCIE-to-SATAII/IDE RAID Controller Disk Controller : Giga-Byte JMB36X PCIE-to-SATAII/IDE RAID Controller USB Controller 1 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #4 USB Controller 2 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #5 USB Controller 3 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #6 USB Controller 4 : Giga-Byte USB EHCI Controller #2 USB Controller 5 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #1 USB Controller 6 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #2 USB Controller 7 : Giga-Byte USB UHCI Controller #3 USB Controller 8 : Giga-Byte USB EHCI Controller #1 FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : Giga-Byte TSB43AB23 1394a-2000 OHCI PHY/link-layer Controller SMBus/i2c Controller 1 : Intel ICH SMBus Printers and Faxes Printer : Microsoft XPS Document Writer (600x600, Colour) Fax : Microsoft Shared Fax Driver (200x200) Network Services Network Adapter : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Ethernet) Power Management Mains (AC) Line Status : On-Line Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.01.7600 Platform Compliance : x64 Windows Experience Index Current System : 3.8 |

Re: i7 Build - BSOD
Check the BIOS M.I.T that the Memory Frequency is 1066, although I'd seat DDR3 1333. Is Marvell 9128 Driver installed for those SATA3 6GB HDD's? Are they connected to GSATA Bus 6 and 7?

Re: i7 Build - BSOD
Whilst this is probably not the cause for BSOD it should help PT performance once you are up & running.
Download and install the plugin updater file from here; http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=362895 Click on view Available Downloads. In Pro Tools go to Setup>Playback Engine and set processors to one less than you have currently set & select CPU limit to 95%. If necessary keep decreasing processors x1 increment at a time checking after each change. Set Cache level to 2. If you have any incompatible plugins your performance will go down. The plugin updater file should take care of most but you may want to check plugin compatibility list; http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=343311

Re: i7 Build - BSOD
BSOD is, more often than even I'd like to admit, a hardware issue. RAM is most common cause, then it could also be the motherboard CPU or display adapter.
I cant tell you how many cases of BSOD I've solved just by replacing the RAM with a different brand. (see the motherboard support list in the gigabyte website) When looking at your specs and Sandra report, it seems like your RAM model is CL8 yet its running in CL7 timing. 1st thing would be to loosen the timing and make sure all RAM speed and specs are setup to manual (not AUTO) and using correct values in the BIOS.

I installed the latest chipset drivers from gigabyte. They are not Marvell 9128 drivers. Why do you believe I should be running this driver? They are plugged into SATA2_0 and SATA2_1. Is this a problem? Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate it. |

No, not really a problem but more beneficial if you use those 1TB SATA3 (6GB Transfer speeds) on GSATA (Gigabyte SATA3 Chip driven by Marvell 91xx?

Re: i7 Build - BSOD
You tried running on just one stick of RAM?
Mike.

I tested the HDD's in Sandra and they came up with mid ranged overall scores (5-6). Does the seem low for the drives? |
