Question Quick questions re: crossgrade to PT9 from PT LE 8

Hey, I can't find the answers to this and would really appreciate a response! Thanks!!! I have Pro Tools LE 8. I just bought a new computer, a MacPro1,1. I am going to do a fresh install (OS, Pro Tools, everything) and wish to crossgrade to Pro Tools 9.

1. Do I need to install PT LE 8 on the computer first, then install PT 9?
2. Digi 002 does not work (see my other thread concerning this wiring harness issue). If I *do* need to install PT LE 8, can I do so without Digi 002 to enough of a degree that I can then install PT 9 on top of that?

Or is it enough to simply have PT LE 8 on the iLok, which is the case here? I hope it's this!!

Thank you very much for your time.

Further info in case it's pertinent:
I have the Pro Tools LE 8 disk and a broken Digi 002
MacPro1,1
I will install OS 10.6.3 fresh

1. No, you can download the full installer for Pro Tools 9.
2. See 1.

There is not iLok asset for Pro Tools LE 8. I am not sure what you are talking about.

Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. This has been a rough couple of weeks in computer hell. I just checked my iLok account and I guess PT is not registered there. I thought it was.

Okay. I am doing a fresh install. I have the disk for PT LE 8. Digi 002 is broken.

I want to crossgrade to PT 9 for $250.

What's the best way to do this? And if I can purchase the crossgrade to PT 9, where do I download the full installer?

Thanks, and apologies for the confusion on my part.

I think I may have just found the answer:

"You do not need Pro Tools LE 8 to upgrade. You need a qualified hardware serial number.

If the user has a Mbox 2, Mbox 2 Mini, Mbox 2 Micro, 002-series, 003-series, Mbox 2 Pro, then he is qualified for the crossgrade. He punches in his serial number and gets an iLok asset and access to download the Pro Tools 9 installer (both upgrade and full install versions)."

Correct me if this is not right. Thanks.

PT8 was not Ilok based, so it has nothing to do with this scenario.

It doesn't matter if your 002 works or not, all you need is to be able to read the serial number on the back of the unit.

Set your PT8 discs aside, you don't need them.

Through a dealer, or from the Avid store, you can buy the PT9 crossgrade for $250. This includes a full installer for the program. You don't need any previous version to be on your computer, in fact it's recommended you don't.

At some point in the process of activating the PT9 software, you will be asked to provide the serial number from the 002. That is what qualifies you to get the $250 price. Once you've done that, you will be the proud owner of PT9, which includes the full installer.

After that, you can sell or throw away your 002 and PT8 discs.

You don't need either one to install and open and use PT9.

Got it!!! Thank you very much, and again, apologies for my thickheadedness. My eyes are swimming and I've been in computer hell.
