Default Digi pls Clarify what OS ??

Im considering bulding for the first time a PC to run Avid Xpress DV 3.0 . Since Windows 2000 & Windows XP PRO (both support dual proccessors) will be a requirement for Avid Xpress DV i need to know the requirement of the next version of Pro Tools.

Bare in mind Windows XP Home Edition ONLY supports 1 CPU. Windows XP PRO supports dual proccessing.

Currently Pro Tools is only running on Windows 98, while Avid Xpress DV runs only on Windows 2000. So we see a major problem here.

Will the future Pro Tools run on Windows XP PRO???

Drivers are exactly the same. How could PT LE specify Home or PRO edition? There was a big difference between WinME and Win2K. However, this changed with WinXP. That was the whole idea. So if you write a software/driver that works for XP home it will work with XP PRO. Digi would have to go out of their way to detect the PRO edition and stop their installer giving "We do not support PRO edition" error. I am not even sure if this is possible. Otherwise everything should work.

Symetrical Multi-Proccessing is at the kernel level not the driver level.

The reason PT runs on 98 and wont run on 2000 is because the kernels have significant differences.

Granted, there will be no significant differences between the XP and XP PRO kernels but may be enuff difference that may not allow PT to run on XP Pro. Thus my question.

That is what i am saying. They would have to go out of their way to do that. The whole idea behind XP was unified drivers for everyone so that comapanies did not have to write drivers specifically for NT based OS. So Digi001 drivers will work with XP PRO. So will PT LE unless Digi go out of their way to limit that. This would upset everyone though.

As far as Multi processing goes, check my post here; http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ub...&f=32&t=004580

It also has a link for "Advanced MultiProcessor" explanation.

Ok confirmed news, Avid Xpress DV 3.0 will be supported on Windows 2000 with full XP support later in the year.

Is there a significant difference between 2k and XP which may not allow PT to run under Win2000 if there is only XP support?

Ok we know ppl have reported new PT on XP so will it run and be supported on Win2000?

Cool
